Shari Lapena NEVER disappoints.

Ughh what can I even say about this book without giving anything away?!

Ok, so William is having an affair. But he is distraught when Nora calls off the affair and he goes home earlier than he normally would. Upon getting home, he finds his 9-year-old daughter home early as well and ends up striking her in the face when she becomes difficult. He’s already on edge from his failed relationship with Nora, after all. William leaves the house to go for a drive and when he returns home finds that his daughter, Avery, is now missing. Detectives organize search parties and begin picking the parents and Avery’s brother apart. Truths come to light and the search seems dire until…

Lapena is truly magnificent. The thing about her books is that she usually has at least a dozen characters to keep up with. You would think that would be a feat but it’s truly not. Her seamless writing and smooth transitions from one POV to the next make her stories easy to follow and absolutely captivating. I am never disappointed when it comes to a book written by Lapena. I dare say she is the Queen of suspense.

This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I finished it in two sittings. I was thinking I had things figured out and then something else, another morsel, was thrown at me and then I was right back at square one, second-guessing myself. This was such a fantastic read. I was ALMOST disappointed in the ending but then THAT LAST PAGE. I screamed. Such a good one.

Go read this one or anything by Shari Lapena. Have a Lapena book on your TBR? Go read it. I don’t even care which one it is, don’t tell me. I’ll tell YOU it’s going to be a real treat. I’ve read them all and I’d recommend any one of her books to anyone. Any day.
