Meh. Lemme give you a proper review. But all I really want to say is, “Meh.” That seems like enough to me.
Alright. So. Grace Evans likes to take a vacation every year. She throws a dart at a board and off she goes to vacation in the very place the dart lands. This year it brings her to Dubois, Wyoming to a quiet little farm in the middle of nowhere. The owner has turned a couple of the rooms into rentable Airbnb rooms. Calvin Wells is the owner of the farm. He takes care of the guests that visit while also taking care of the farm and its animals day in and day out. Thing is, Calvin has taken quite a liking to Grace… and Grace thinks he’s pretty attractive himself. As feelings start to bloom and small-town occupants start to make strange comments about the farm, Grace finds she may be in a less-than-ideal situation but it’s one of those trainwrecks where you just can’t turn away.
This book is told from Grace and Calvin’s perspectives. I found that to be exciting in the beginning but by the middle of the book I had everything figured out and I guess because I had it all figured out without a shadow of a doubt, I just lost interest. The ending fell a little flat. Mind you, the last bit of it was amusing. I just got bored.
If I had to hear “those blue blue eyes” one more time I think I was going to lose it. We get it Calvin. We get it JENEVA.
There were just WAY too many hints. I mean, for heaven’s sake the author was spelling it all out. The book did make me feel uncomfortable though so it got an extra half-star for that. But, oof, man. Just oof.
I’m also a devourer of thrillers. So it may just be that I was disappointed when this one didn’t live up to my usual suspense/thriller. I don’t know. But it was a wild ride either way. So go read it. Try it out.
