This is the story of a man who loses his wife to a tragic car accident. Only the car accident is anything but typical. Multiple things at the scene aren’t adding up. Was this a simple car accident? Or was this a murder? Everyone here has secrets. And someone here knows EVERYTHING.

What a read! I enjoyed this book so thoroughly. From the beginning, I was absolutely intrigued. Anything psychological captures me rather quickly. I was able to appreciate some of the content in the beginning, once the curtain closed, because it truly did tie in to the story and give us a little foreshadowing about what was to come. I just didn’t realize it was even there until I got to the very end. And what an ending it was! I loved the foreshadowing in the beginning so much. It made reading the last sentence of the book that much more impactful for me.

I appreciate the way this book completely threw me. As an avid consumer of thriller novels, I can usually pick up on who the killer is or where the story is going well before the end. While I did have the thought that I knew what was coming, the way the characters were written and the structure of the story really threw me. Over and over again, I questioned myself. Only to later chastise myself for having any doubt. This is the opposite of a complaint. I loved every moment.

One of my favorite things is a book that has morally grey characters. This book had an abundance of them. It made for such an exciting read. I was in a constant state of feeling like every single character (save maybe one of them) was hiding something, and that alone kept me on the edge of my seat. The author had a way of making you like the characters while somehow leaving them to be downright suspicious.

I actually received this book from NetGalley back in 2019 and never got around to reading it. Likely because I typically don’t read books that have the POV of an investigator or cop. I don’t know why, but that’s always driven me away from books if I see it in the synopsis. So, I went into this thinking I might get annoyed or bored. I did not. I was invested in this story the entire time, and I dare say this book may have lessened my aversion to the genre.

I will definitely be picking up more titles by Farrell in the future. This was a very enjoyable read that kept me guessing, kept me on the edge of my seat, and had me feeling all the emotions up until the very end. And THAT ENDING. What a fun read this was.

Some trigger warnings I noticed along the way: descriptive violence, talk of child abuse, talk of sexual abuse, talk of physical abuse, descriptive murder, death of a teenager.
