Ok so… one of the book clubs I’m a part of read this book and when I saw what it was about, I immediately jumped on it.
Let me just say, I’ve never read a book like this before. But I was willing to give it a go as it was a Peter Pan retelling and it seemed like it was going to be really dark. And boyyyyy was it.
It just wasn’t for me though. I don’t know if it was this book specifically or the gang-banging that was going on. I don’t really know. I wasn’t bothered by it but I think the plot wasn’t enough to warrant literally anything else this book had to offer. In fact, the plot didn’t really start until the end of the book when it left us on a cliffhanger. A mighty large one I might add.
Was I dying to go get the second book to find out what was going on? Well, at first, yea. But then I sat on this one for a few days and decided I didn’t really care either way. I MIGHT pick up book two at some point and read it just to see if the plot goes anywhere and to find out what’s going on with this curse and all but… I’m not dying to find out. And I really don’t think I’ll lose any sleep if I never find out. We shall see.
Another issue, I think, was the fact that none of the characters were really that likable in my opinion. One of them was interesting to me but not enough to redeem even part of the story.
I think the other problem is I started a series right after reading The Never King that blew me away and put this book to shame. Ravenhood series by Kate Stewart. Yea. Now THAT was something that I really enjoyed. Reviews to come on that series!
Honestly, I loved the idea behind this story but… meh. And while it kind of seems like book 2 is going to go hard with a good plot… meh.
That’s it. That’s the review.
Maybe I’ll pick up book two one day but until then, I’m left with this 2.5-star bad-tasting book in my mouth. If I pick up book two it will SOLELY be for Vane. Just saying.
