Well, since I really wanted to read a vampire romance and the one I chose fell flat, I figured I would try again with this one and it did not disappoint!

Never trust. Never yield. Always guard your heart.

A human girl is taken in by a vampire King. She’s raised around vampires and taught to stay alive via fighting and hiding/running when the situation deems it necessary. Now she is 23 and is entering a tournament where the winner will be granted a wish from the goddess Nyaxia. During the tournament she makes allies her father would not approve of. Will she choose the man who gave her a second chance at life or the man who makes her feel alive for the first time in her life?

Romance. Drama. Cutthroat contestants. World building. Tension. This book had it all.

Oraya is a headstrong, unwavering warrior. However, she doubts herself. And she literally trusts one person. One. Everyone else is the enemy.

Enter Raihn. *sighs* He’s here to kick her ass via training and remind her that she is worth so much more than she believes she is. They become closer and closer while also keeping each other at arms reach as it is not lost on them that only one can survive this competition and one of them will inevitably not make it out alive.

Hunger Games meets Twilight. Those are the vibes this gave me. This book tore me apart in so many ways. I felt all the feels. And the “never you” moment. Omg. Those two words unalived me right then and there.

Immediately diving into book two (obviously) and am endlessly thankful that this is a duet.

THIS was the vampire romance I needed. *sobs*

“Are you going to kill me tonight, Oraya?”
I didn’t run. Didn’t move. Instead, I lay my palm flat against his chest.
I surprised even myself when I replied, “Not tonight.”

“You might destroy me anyway.”
